Homework

At Bluecoat Meres we believe that homework is an important part of our school curriculum and the learning process. Therefore we aim to set challenging work or activities which students do outside of lesson time, either on their own or with parents and carers that is designed to extend their learning of key skills and important information and embed factual knowledge.

Homework would not normally be set for the following day to allow students time to complete the tasks but there are clubs that run both at lunchtime and after school that afford students the opportunity to complete these tasks using the school’s ICT facilities.

Our staff will set homework for students using the following guidelines.

Years 7, 8 and 9:

At Bluecoat Meres, Years 7, 8 and 9 will be given specific homework through the Knowledge Organiser. The Knowledge Organisers are issued each term as a printed document and are also available online. Students must complete weekly ‘self quizzing’ in an exercise book which is provided; failure to complete the book each week will result in detention. Subjects may also set additional homework.

Years 10 and 11:

Homework guidance will be communicated with all students through their subject teachers.

Subject areas will set homework appropriate to the learning needs of the students in their class. This will be up to a maximum of 45 minutes per week. During the subject programme, the homework will vary depending upon the structure of the course, controlled assessment deadlines and impending examinations.

Students are expected to record their homework in their student planners.
